Hi folks!

I'm thinking of installing Windows 10 on my Gaming PC. But I've heared rumours about trouble with UT2004 running on Windows 10.

Has anybody installed Windows 10 and how are your experiences with it?

Thx
Oldie

I know about problems that Xtreme had with UT2004 on Win10. But I don't know if he could find a solution.

Moin Mädelz,
I'm running Win 10 on my gaming rig for few month now without experiencing any issues with UT2004. My installation is not a "clean install"; I updated from Win 8.1. Testing on my sons PC, I first got a "critical error" with the following errror message:

UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2005-11-23_16.22]

OS: Windows NT 6.2 (Build: 9200)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 3303 MHz with 2047MB RAM
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (5582)

LockRect failed: D3DERR_DEVICELOST

History: UD3DRenderDevice::ReadPixels <- UD3DRenderDevice::Present <- UGameEngine::Draw <- UWindowsViewport::Repaint <- UWindowsClient::Tick <- ClientTick <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Untitled <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Realloc <- 10910191 0 FArray <- FArray::Realloc <- 0*2 <- FMallocWindows::Free

Replacing the UT2004.ini from my sons Computer with the one of my gaming PC helped... so after numerous trys I can at least tell, that the following lines/statements were responible for the error mentioned above:

In the section
[Engine.Engine]
the RenderDevice is selected; in my case its D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice like seen below:

[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice

;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

For each RenderDevice has its own section quite a few lines below, you have to check yourself which one matters for you:

eg. my case (which I think should be the far most common):
In the section
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
is a line regarding ReduceMouseLag like seen below:

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
ReduceMouseLag=False
-> worked

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
ReduceMouseLag=True
-> did NOT work

hope this helped, happy fraggin'

@rommel: sounds like a problem with admin rights to me. Do you have an admin account on this pc?
